Currently, in Pinellas County, the sheriff serving over this jurisdiction is Sheriff Jim Coats. Jim Coats has been working in law enforcement for his entire professional career. For 38 years he has been a trusted member of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office. He has work in many different positions around the office, and in 2004 was elected to the coveted position of Pinellas County Sheriff. He is currently serving his second consecutive term as Sheriff.
Under his instruction, the Pinellas county sheriff’s office has been working towards making Pinellas county a safe and family-friendly environment. This is done through strict and professional law enforcement, various informational and instructive programs, and up-to-date information regarding crimes and criminal movement throughout Pinellas county.
There is a daily log of criminal activity or calls that have been made; this is updated frequently in order to keep the community aware of what tasks are being taken care of around the county. There are also a number of resources regarding sexual offender tracking systems and informational pieces regarding criminals that have been processed.
Besides law enforcement initiatives, Pinellas county sheriff’s office offers a number of programs based around the community. Some of these programs are geared towards teens like drug and crime programs, and other programs for teen driving and various milestones in life.
